Happy Birthday

Thanks to E's good work spreading the message, we were able to surprise M with a birthday party tonight. About 8 kids came by and we had quite a feast - ham, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, pizza, chili, two cakes, ice cream, cookies. Basically a collection of some of his favorite food.

M had been working at the theatre where there was a matinee performance of the play (click here for a Washington Post story about the production). We timed things so several of his friends got to our house before he did. E set it all up. Then they hid upstairs. He was quite surprised when they came down.

The play, by the way, is quite good. We went to Friday evening's performance. Ended up sitting right below the catwalk where M was positioned with his spotlights. The lighting, of course, was very well done.

Maryland readers should know that the play will be staged at the University of Maryland's Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center on Feb. 10 & 11, by the way. M will again be working his spots.

Things continue to be interesting at work with the new blog. I hope you're all checking it out several times a day. At some point, I'll probably be paid by the number of clicks it gets, I suspect.

E had her first winter color guard competition of the season Saturday night. We drove her and one other girl. It was in McLean, so we didn't have to go far. And it was a small competition, so we were home well before 10 p.m. Chantilly placed second out of the four teams in their class. It looks to me like it will be a better program than the one they did last year. Right now they're still working out some kinks, though.
